About
The Myall River Camp project marked GlamXperience’s first fully off-grid glamping initiative. Located in New South Wales, this project aimed to provide a luxurious yet sustainable camping experience, fully disconnected from traditional power and water grids. The objective was to create a unique, eco-friendly accommodation option that offered all the comforts of glamping while minimizing environmental impact.
The approach
GlamXperience approached the Myall River Camp project with a focus on sustainability and innovation. The team utilized two 20ft shipping containers as the base for the camp’s solar power system, which included housing batteries and a charge controller. These containers were cleverly clad with half-round poles to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, resembling log cabins. Additionally, the placement of the solar power unit was strategically decided using sun studies to ensure optimal sun exposure. The camp’s infrastructure included compost toilets and a gutter system for rainwater collection, further enhancing its eco-friendly credentials. This comprehensive approach ensured that the three safari tents on site were powered by 12v systems, maintaining luxury while being fully off-grid .
The results
The Myall River Camp project has been a resounding success, earning the NSW Holiday Park Innovation Award in 2022. The site has attracted a wide range of visitors who appreciate the unique combination of luxury and sustainability. Financially, the project has proven to be highly profitable, with the off-grid safari tents commanding premium rates and contributing to a quick return on investment. The success of this project has not only boosted Myall River Camp’s reputation but also demonstrated the viability and appeal of sustainable glamping options .
